The Lodge Experience in Sabi Sand: Where Safari Meets Wine

We began our journey in Sabi Sand, one of South Africa’s most renowned private game reserves. There’s something truly magical about staying in a luxury lodge, where the sounds of nature lull you to sleep and the landscapes feel straight out of a movie.

Beyond the thrilling sunrise and sunset safaris, we had the chance to take part in a traditional ancestral African dinner — an experience rich in flavor, storytelling, and cultural depth.

The highlight? We had the chance to taste what’s known as one of the finest Pinotages — South Africa’s iconic grape. With notes of ripe dark berries, gentle smokiness, and a hint of chocolate, Pinotage is a truly distinctive varietal that captures the essence of the country’s wine identity.

For those seeking to blend the thrill of safari with the sophistication of wine, Sabi Sand is the perfect destination.

Groot Constantia: History and Wine at South Africa’s Oldest Winery

Located in the Constantia region, just minutes from Cape Town, Groot Constantia offers a deep dive into South Africa’s winemaking heritage. Founded in 1685, it is considered the oldest winery in the country.

We were welcomed with a guided tour in English, where we learned about the centuries-old winemaking traditions of the region.

The highlight was the wine and chocolate pairing — where each bite seemed to elevate the flavors of the wines. We also had the privilege of tasting Napoleon Bonaparte’s favorite wine, the legendary Vin de Constance, known for its sweetness and remarkable complexity.

It was an experience that transported us to another time, all while we took in the stunning vineyards surrounding the estate.
