If there’s one hotel in Lisbon that truly surprised me, it was Palácio do Governador. From the moment I walked through its grand entrance, I knew this wouldn’t be just another stay — it would be a truly memorable experience.

Located in Belém, one of the city’s most beautiful and historic neighborhoods, the hotel occupies a building that once served as the residence of the Governor of the Belém Tower. The original architecture has been carefully preserved, while the interiors have been fully renovated to create a space that feels elegant, spacious, and exceptionally comfortable.

What impressed me the most was the attention to detail and the refreshing sense of calm that flows throughout the entire space.Wide hallways, high ceilings, and flawless finishes give every corner of the hotel a distinct charm.

The rooms are spacious and airy, with windows that let in Lisbon’s soft natural light — creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The décor stays true to the building’s historical essence, yet adds a contemporary touch that feels effortlessly sophisticated, never overdone.

And the bed? Pure bliss. The comfort is indescribable, and the bathroom offers that generous space we all hope to find in a true five-star hotel.

Another standout feature of Palácio do Governador is its impeccable hospitality. From check-in to the smallest room service details, everything flows with grace and thoughtful care. The staff is incredibly kind and attentive, always ready to offer sightseeing tips, organize reservations, or simply make sure your stay is absolutely perfect.

And if there’s one thing that completely won me over, it was Po Tat, the hotel’s restaurant. Its concept is modern and inspired — blending contemporary cuisine with Asian influences, delivering dishes that are truly surprising.

The fusion of Portuguese ingredients with Eastern techniques and spices results in creations that are sophisticated yet deeply flavorful. The menu ranges from light, fresh options to more intense, comforting dishes.

One of my personal favorites was the cured sea bass with ponzu sauce and crispy seaweed — perfectly balanced in acidity, texture, and brightness. And for those craving something warmer and heartier, the Sichuan-style lamb rack is simply incredible: tender, juicy, and with just the right touch of heat.

And as if all of this weren’t enough, the hotel also features a spectacular spa and two pools — one indoor and one outdoor. The spa is inspired by ancient Roman baths, offering the perfect setting to unwind after a day of exploring the city.Between a soothing massage and a dip in the heated pool, it’s easy to forget the outside world and simply surrender to the moment.

The location of Palácio do Governador is ideal for those who want to explore Belém on foot. Just a short walk away are some of Lisbon’s most iconic landmarks — including the Belém Tower, the Jerónimos Monastery, and the Monument to the Discoveries. And of course, you can’t miss the obligatory stop at Pastéis de Belém, where the pastel de nata comes warm from the oven, with crispy pastry and perfectly creamy filling.

Palácio do Governador is so much more than just a hotel — it’s a complete experience, where history, luxury, and heartfelt hospitality come together beautifully. If you’re planning a trip to Lisbon and looking for a truly special place to stay — with attentive service, spacious design, and a restaurant full of surprises — this is the address you’re looking for.
